Graduate School Choices (M.Arch)

katlee

I am going to graduate from Texas A&M this year with a Bachelor of Environmental Design and am now looking for an M.Arch graduate program.  One of my top choices for school is UT Austin, but I'm also looking at Rice (a little too expensive for me) and UH.  Does anyone have any current knowledge of these programs or about the selection process for them?  I know that I need a solid portfolio, letters of rec, cover letter, and good GRE scores.

Also, does anyone know of any other good schools in the country that won't break the bank?  I'm leaning towards staying in Texas, but I'm still open to out of state schools.  Any advice concerning architecture graduate admissions would be greatly appreciated!

I know that several of my friends received generous financial offers from Rice. They also seemed to get good deals from Washington U. in St Louis, even though these are both private schools. I know UH has a 'space architecture' program that I keep hearing about... a specialized interest of yours coinciding with any of these schools would be advantageous and help you stand out/receive merit aid.

UT Austin has an excellent architectural program that wont break your bank.  It's a state university with a solid rating and a long tradition. And Austin is a blast to live in when considering all options in Texas.  I completed M.Arch at UT Arlington which is a same UT system and also has a good architectural program.  They are large state schools and I don't think it would be too hard to get in.

There was a thread recently about this...

If you have any questions relating to UH, I can do my best to answer them. There are a few other UH alums on here as well.

Thanks for all the info!  To LITS4FormZ: does UH have any specific focus in the graduate architecture program?  If it's not a formal focus, do the majority of the professors teach along similar lines, such as theory or structural emphasis?
