Architecture Conferences

Ronakarp
What are some good architecture or urban design conferences out there? I know about AIA, Railvolution, Ed-Spaces, SCUP, and Green Build. Looking forward to hearing some other ideas.

ah, good question!  Please expand on the ones you listed - ie. Railvolution?!  Is it actually worth attending?

  • Next City (you actually apply to attend this one, impress your colleagues)
  • Monterey Design Conference AIACC
  • ULI (depending on the theme, could be a great networking opportunity or the most boring - and pricey - waste of time you've spent alive all year)
  • AIAS Conference (happening in SF right now, our firm sent recruiters to meet students)
  • Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH)

  • Think internationally - MADE Expo in Milan for example.  The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Chicago is a very active recruiter AND SPONSOR for American Architects (not necessarily licensed) to attend Conferences, Design Expos, Marble Extraction Companies, and Italian furniture dealers in Italy.  All expenses paid for 5-7 days. Great networking opportunity, great travel opportunity, great cultural opportunity.  Molto bene!!

The Northeast AIAS Quad conference happened a couple weeks ago in Toronto. These events are awesome! Here's the weekend recap if anyone is interested in seeing what they are all about.

Since you mention urban design, you might also look at the APA (American Planning Association).  There's a big national meeting, plus many states have chapters and conferences as well.
