i'm a second-year undergrad working towards a bachelor of fine arts, double majoring in photography and computer science. im seriously considering heading to grad school to study architecture.
since I still have 2 years to go, ive got plenty of time to prepare. id like to know for people in or out of grad school: what would you have done to improve your grad school application?
what courses would have taken? summer internships? books to read? what would you include in your portfolio? what would you not?
also.. for someone totally new to architecture, is there a book that one can read to break into the field? im applying to columbia's intro to arch program this summer... can someone tell me about it?
just doccument everything you do an dkeep you records.. I had a few things I did that I though were boring at the time and didn't hang onto but could have re-worked into intersting portfolio material.
Alikh- take a summer studio or get an internship to see if you really want to go into architecture. The GSD offers a intro studio called Career Discovery that lasts six weeks and has gotten good reviews from most people I know that took it. Columbia offers something similar in NY. Or, if you're able to travel, RISD offers a six week architecture studio in Rome. I took that studio a few years ago and greatly enjoyed it.
