It's always been my true passion, but I was discouraged to pursue it in favor of a "more practical" route. I graduated in May with a BS in biology and currently work in a molecular biology laboratory in Boston.
How do I learn more about the profession of architecture? Gain experience? Develop skills that would get me into an M.Arch. I program (eventually)?
Read through this thread "Seriously, what other careers can architects make a move into?" Then ask yourself if an expensive m.arch followed by the post degree challenges is worth it.
Too many ppl have a false idea of what 'architecture' really is...think lots and lots of one on one time with you and... you got it, a computer! Oh, and low wages and recessions!
assuming you won't take our advice...if you're going to stay in boston, do not go to the BAC.
also, we're trying to de-glamorize the field for you. school is a lot of fun, but as soon as you get out it's going to be a competitive job market doing work that is for the most part, nothing at all like you did in school.
you'll be at a desk drafting mundane details of ADA compliant counter tops, facades of metal warehouses, or painfully ugly single family residences, egress plans that no amount of coffee will help to keep your eyes open or your brain focused. respite will be found in occasional on site visits to construction projects or sitting in on client meetings.
sure you could find your way into a design focused office or maybe even keep a foot in academia. but look around, all the ugliness to be found from corporate office parks to kum n go gas stations were designed by architects. hope this helps give you perspective.
Breaking into Architecture (B.Sc. in Another Field...No Experience)
Hi Friends,
Title says it all, I suppose.
Any and all advice is welcome...
Thanks guys!!

Development is what you want to be looking into shostakovich13.... you want to be the one with the capital to invest in architecture.
