I'm thinking about entering it. I haven't registered yet, but it sounds interesting.
The strangest thing I read in the rules was if you win first prize, but can't/don't want to help move the project forward/help with project book design, and some other "winner resposibilities, your award gets cut in half. It sounded like, basically if you're a student, you're only getting 10k, not 20k. I don't know if that's a normal competition practice.
It seems like a good project though because the program is relatively simple and the context is an amusement park, and some vacant lots..
so it seems like a good opportunity to do whatever.
exactly. i registered ages ago, but i still havent got round to making a start.
it's also fairly cheap to enter- given the prize, and although the program isnt wildly original, at least the solution can be relatively........
I went to visit a few weeks ago, it was very cold and the only peopel walking around on the boardwalk were some old russians and such. There was a seal on the beach, and people were standing around looking at it, including about 4 cops.
Me and my friend had just finished stalking around the site and staring up at the cordoned off toy (which is ridiculous, the city here is being like the big kid standing in the middle of the soccer field, not letting anyone touch the ball) when we saw two other people stalking around as well. They looked somewhat like design types, just female instead of male. I went up to them, as they looked at me suspiciously, and said. "Hey you guys are doing the parachute pavilion too aren't you." She gave me a look like a trapped animal, then responded yes. I said we should have a rumble, as to lessen the competition, she gracefully declined.
We are working on it as well. It's a difficult site. It's awkward shape doesn't lend itself to easy spatial or programatic solutions.
I spent about a day at the site about a month ago. It was fun trying to pick out the designers from the "ordinary" folk. The glasses always give them away.
They say the result will come out this May. No specific date, though.
We submitted ours last Saturday by Fedex. Hopefully it arrives there by the end of today.
BTW, how many other submission were there?
How did you see?
Do they have boards already laid out for review?
i would also like to know when will the exhibtion be hold in Van Alen's Galley.... too bad I'm in LA! It would be great if all the works can be posted and exhibited online!
Coney Island Parachute Pavilion
Is anyone doing this competition?
