IDP Credit and EPS Question

I'm interning at the architectural division at the city of LA. It is an unpaid internship so I thought I would not count towards IDP. But somebody told me that since it is a government agency it might be counted as non-profit organization. Do you think this is true? And even if it does count, I could only get 80 hours max right?

And also I'm trying to earn hours through EPC since my hours working here might not count. Do you have to have some training hours completed before you can do EPC?

Help me out Please! Thank you!!

First I don’t speak acronym so what does EPC stand for?

Page 24 has some bad news.  No, no hours gained a city has no 501C status.

But you have a mentor?

If yes

You have construction sites that the city may grant you access to?

If yes

Then you have 40 hours of site visits with mentor.

You can have more than one mentor figure out if there is a registered architect working for the city and follow him or her to each and every site visit they have to make.

Do you go to seminars, product presentations, some of those are also eligible for IDP credits under continuing education.

Also the IDP process serves as a barrier to registration but the goal is to make sure only qualified people become registered architects.  This is a fact the barriers are less of a problem when the economy is good.

Another idea, go and write to the city manager or the manager of your department and ask for a $10 salary. Then you are paid and the IDP hours can accumulate.  Ask for a meeting to explain the situation if needed.

The folks at NCARB do their best to accommodate but they have to have some rules, don’t get frustrated just find ways around the roadblocks
