wettbewerb aktuell (german) is interesting.
features submitted competitions and winning entries for germany and most of the larger european competitions as well.
harvard design mag
el croquis, though it is expensive.
detail is pretty good. german, but has english summaries. it's really good for researching... details.
I would like to subscribe to Detail, but I'm not sure whether to subscribe to the new English edition (6 issues/yr) or the original German edition. (10 issues/yr) I was sent a sample English mag and the text was very good. Will I be missing out on something (besides the additional issues) if I choose the English edition?
Does anybody read any of the new (or still around) theory or pseudo-theory mags (306090, Log, Thresholds, Perspecta, Pamphlet Architecture)? Personally I've come to be a fan of Daidalos - but need a good croquis fix every now and then.
1. El Croquis/ Architecture Review
2. GA Document (no 6 guys its all about no 6)
3. Detail/Arquine from Mexico/
4. WallPaper <- don't knock it/ Caribbean Architect/ Architecture et Urbanism - Santo Domingo
5. Metropolis - has it good side amongst the crap
it isn't really architecture.
and i suppose not very sophisticated either (sorry no gloss) but i get really excited when my ready made shows up through my mail slot.
do you people ever read books? no pictures, but the new book on the world trade center mess is full of gossip and slams on your favorite snoring critics.
TOP ARCHITECTURAL MAGAZINES
Hi,
A few Magazine's subscriptions seems to have ended at the office.
I want some new mags...
What would be the best mags to have...enough of the glossy pictures already, good details and insightful text would be nice too
(like in a porno mag!)
EL Croquis is no. 1 choise.
GA Document too.
I subscribe to Domus, Detail and Shinkenchiku. They are kind of magazines you can still pick up years from now and learn something from them.
Suscribed to
Arch Record
Arch Review
Frame mag (nice one for Interior Dez)
I buy from time to time
Hauser (German slick)
Dwell (cheap and good)
Metropolis (best article so far)
If I had the budget
El Croquis
Detail (the german mag)
Plan
French mags are good too:
L'architecture d'aujourd'hui
Technique et architecture
domus

metropolis is the hotness. their writers (karrie jacobs, philip nobel, et. al) are ridonk.
rizzle ridonk. dood.
Icon, it's what Blueprint was 10 years ago
blueprint ten years ago was a cheap metropolis knockoff.
I forgot that one...didn't read it since university...where it was free at the library...
Architectural Design (AD)...I think it's from the UK...
Amazing mag...with deep-down essays and good ''marginal''-like projects
has anyone taken a look at log? it's like a big mcsweeney's ripoff. i mean homage.
...i'll take that as a "no." so let's change the topic: anyone reading anything good about architecture these days??
ai
(check the february issue for a little spotlight on Archinect)
a shout out to the late (very late) and lamented Skyline
smarts in b&w cheap paper like a broadside.
I'd get:
Detail
Grey Room
Wallpaper
Punk Planet
I would.
It really is what do you get along with my subscription to Architecture Review - the magazine is just so thoroughout and intelligent.
So I usually get something with a lifestyle and design theme, wallpaper, metropolis, now thinking of ICON
Architectural Digest with Celebrities on the cover!
This Month is CLINT EASTWOOD!!!! with GOLF CLUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(This is a laughing matter.)
loud paper
don't forget Hustler
is there any way to access EL Croquis (or other mag) articles/images other than shelling out 100 bones per issue?
anybody get archis? any good?
or 'volume' as it is now called i believe . . .
architectural digest is the best
I don't think L'Arca and Azure have been mentioned.
Second Detail and A+U
Can never decide whether el Croquis is worth it
All the usual suspects are here. Try 32 Beijing/New York. It is a nice emerging publication.
