shinkenchiku residential design competition 2002

Let us talk about this past compe. The jury is Daniel Libeskind. Some enties are really crazy. Here is the introduction of the compe.:

Dwelling where the Muses are served/spared emptiness

The smell of architecture in the third and fourth
millennium, as well as its foretaste tomorrow and the
day after, will have little to do with traditional
dwelling: whether the dwelling of theoretical
relationships, spatial configurations, virtual
exchanges or social relations. Such insistence has in
the past been predicated on the putting together of
discrete, linguistically autonomous, and ready-made
regions; whereas it is actually a question of
indeterminate, non-linear and archipelagic dissolution
of edges.

This competition explores architecture as a voyage
into an unknown; city and buildings as clairvoyants;
homecoming without home. The constructive
interrogation of architecture might yet point to the
anachronism of exchanges. Their flesh and blood medium
appears today to be inseparable from the virtual
rather than the virtue of building. For virtue is
inherently a spiritual experience of nothing rather
than any exteriority attributed to it.

Urban mythologies, assumed moments of communication,
ravages in the physiognomy of cities, the twilight of
deserts, might yet be signs of a dawning disclosure: a
disclosure which the city has already made and is
continuing to extend globally, despite the fact that
one doesnt recognize it nor has a common language for
it. We have been alerted to an absence of revelation whose
suspension one cannot afford to miss.
