Well, after many long days I finally finished my portfolio for M.Arch applications and I sent off the first two today. I have made a low-res version (72 dpi) and posted it at the following address:
Six copies of the final product were printed at 300 dpi on an offset printer on 100# text stock with a 100# cover, acetate, and Wiro binding (it was not cheap!). Now it's X-mas eve and I don't know what to do with myself, I've been working on this project constantly for weeks now! Anyway, happy holidays, hope they are pleasant.
Btw, I am assuming nobody wants to steal any of my work at 72 dpi... but I would appreciate comments!
looks good - nice clean layout and a range of projects. i'm a bit worried about the range myself, did mostly arch. design projects because i got a b.s.arch. undergrad.
Link works for me... maybe it was temporarily down? Yahoo has been flaky lately...
I'm applying to Harvard, MIT, Yale, U Penn, U of Kansas, and U of Cincinatti. M.Arch I, obviously I don't have an arch background. I know what you mean regarding range... perhaps you have some other work you can include? photography, etc? Or do what I did, go out and learn how to do some shit real fast...
Well... I tracked my FedEx package today and found out that my portfolio (and the rest of my support materials) did not arrive at Harvard as scheduled today (the deadline) because of an ice storm in Detroit. Harvard's admissions office isn't accepting calls because of short staff and high volume, and I'm going to assume that I am not the only one with this problem. Anyway, I hope it does not adversely affect my application.... hmmm...
Your portfolio looks good. Its very clear and shows a broad range of work. I wouldn't worry about your portfolio arriving late, there's gotta be alot of delayed postage. Im sure they'll understand.
If you are able to get to the folder, do a right-click "Save as..." For some reason when you click on it straight, it tries to display it in Windows Explorer (on the PC) instead of prompting for a download or "Open" command. It usually does work but it sits there thinking while downloading so it looks like it's not working. Maybe that's the problem some of you have been experiencing...
I do hope that you will tell us of your acceptance status when the time rolls around. I am working on my portfolio now and would love to have a point of reference. One comment, and i realize that the time is past, is that I might have liked to have seen the portfolio close on a stronger work. Good job though.
I believe Yahoo Briefcase is down... should be back up eventually. I'll keep y'all posted on the admissions decisions, even if it's totally embarrassing... :-)
