blogs

does anyone here keep a blog and if so do you use it for professional purposes? i.e. keep your resume on it, maybe some writing samples, images, etc?

my girlfriend is trying to transition over from pr to writering. she's pitching more and more ideas to websites and magazines. often in the process people want to see samples of her writing but currently everything she has is a hard copy. she wants to start a web site with its own domain name to house her resume, articles she's published etc. when people want to see samples, she just gives them the domain name. i'm discouraging her against this because she doesn't know the first thing about page building (i will probably end up having to relearn it all and then teaching her) and it costs money (we're trying to save for a wedding). i mentioned she should just start a blog. Then if she eventually wants to take it to another level, she should think about getting a domain name. her idea of blogs are from examples where big gossip ends up on the media (remmeber the women who worked in the white house). i tell her that i have read people use them for professional AND personal applications. she rolls her eyes and thinks i'm off my rocker. i really have not tinkered with blogs that much. i've googled a few things - "professional blogs" etc and sent her some links but i just wanted to see what others thought. can it be just as easy getting a domain name. from what i know most blogs seem to be free and to reserve a domain name and rent storage space requires $. she also thinks blogs are all font based and there is no opportunity to insert images. what do you guys think?

thanks for your imput.

THE SUPERMARKET

i use a blog as a way of cataloging my work.
i tried to integrate it into my site. so you dont feel like you are leaving the site when you go to the blog:
http://fourteensquarefeet.com
or go straight to the blog here:
http://fourteensquarefeet.com/blog/

i am in the midst of beginning a blog for an office i am starting in order to give everybody a platform to write their ideas out. we dont have an office and we are located in dif areas of the u.s. and one in bulgaria.

if you catalouge your blog right and learn some basic css you can have a blog that is just as nice as a custom site with half the hassle of learning css or flash.
here is the site for THE SUPERMARKET
