I recently got accepted into Pratt's masters program and I'm just wondering if anyone else out there that was accepted received any financial aid. I know they like to state time and time again that they only offer "merit based scholarships" but how much is that scholarship. Is it $500 or $5,000. Also, how much off of tuition do they give you for being a TA. If anyone in the school or someone that graduated can shed some light on this it would be great.
Not sure about the TA thing, but I got a $10k/year scholarship that was mentioned in the initial email and the admission packet. I know some others got $15k, but those are the only two amounts I've heard, and I think most of the offers are just for the first year. Mine was renewing, but that might be because they gave me advanced standing? Who the hell knows. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
Has anyone had any luck contacting Pratt? I've been trying for two weeks to get a hold of them (question about ap status and about an incorrect award letter).
@orgufiel
I was also awarded a scholarship (15k) but mine is not renewable. At least I don't think it is. From what I can tell from my award letter that I received there's no need-based assistance. But I would also like to know what they pay their TAs per semester and if there's a tuition break for TAs. I know CCA pays about $2000 a semester with no tuition reduction, so I would take a guess it's somewhere around that.
I don't know, I got into pratt, but is it really worth the 150-200 g for three years of learning about grasshopper based parametrics? I know it's a good skill to have, but come on... I know the connections in ny are good, but thats a big chunk of debt for getting out with a beginning architects salary.
I totally agree. Their undergraduate program is much more appealing, honestly. It's sad that they seem to think grad school is the time to learn dataset-generated bullshit rather than the thoughtful crafting of space.
Just to elaborate on that point a bit, after having visited I can totally understand why the undergraduate program is so much more well-regarded both in terms of general reputation and ranking (in as much as that's useful for anything).
Sounds like you were at the accepted students thing yesterday (i was second row in the auditorium white jacket). Congrats on getting advanced standing. I hear they don't give out too many. That saves 60k for you.
You're right, I think it would have been way better to go as an undergrad.

i also have been having trouble contacting them. I got my questions answered yesterday, but it's very annoying when you're trying to decide between schools. It's funny how they accept students and then leave them clueless.
I think the event yesterday cleared up quite a bit of how the program operates. The best thing about them is their connections(which i wouldn't mind having). They have ivy-league tuition, with scholarship and assistantship for the most part don't help the fact that you'll be six figures deep when you get out. Nonetheless, I think they're a great school and i'd go for any less than 80k.
Personally, I think i'll go for the school that gave me the best scholarship.
i was at the pratt thing, until it weirdly unraveled after the tours. i wasn't impressed at all, to be honest. they seemed to have way too much of an inferiority complex about columbia, and there was just a lot of shitting on other schools' programs.
I just got accepted to Pratt MArch1 with $10k non-renewable scholarship. not much help when compared to total cost... seems like it's just an incentive to get me into the program and then I'm stuck paying the rest...but I would be interested to know about any other financial aid that is available from them.
I was hoping I could get some information from those who recieved financial aid from Pratt. I was accepted there and decided to defer my acceptance because of financial reasons. I would really like to attend there next fall, only if I recieve some aid. For those of you who received financial aid, if you don't mind, I would really like to know what you received on your GRE, your GPA, and if you had any work experience before applying to the M.Arch program. I understand if you do not like to share that information, but I am just trying to figure out what ball park I need to be in. And hopefully see what aspect they look at most for the merit based financial aid. Thank you!

Does Pratt even help with financial aid for M.Arch 1?

What's the general consensus?

I applied to Pratt but haven't got the luck to actually get the ticket to freedom. Maybe I'll have more luck next year...
