Portfolio Critique

Nathan_B

I will be applying to three schools this year to pursue a Masters of Architecture degree. My undergraduate degree is a non-professional Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science. I will be applying to McGill University, University of Toronto and the Architectural Association.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions.

just saw it quickly, looks pretty good. doesnt really go out with a bang at the end though, might be nice to end with the photography, instead of the drawings

pg 26 has a nice model, but the image looks a little dark compared to the page next to it. You could brighten it up in photoshop. i might even switch those 2 pages and end with the model, since you showed drawings in the previous pages.

with good letters or rec and the essay, should turn out well

I think the layout and organization are nice. I like the colors and contrast throughout the book. However, the last few sections in the book with photography, arch. studies, and drawings do not impress me very much. I think you could do without them. I also think this book could use a bit more edge, and I think one way to do that would be to use different fonts. You have two primary fonts, Helvetica (or something very similar) and some sort of italicized serif font. If you could change one or both of these then I think you might get a much needed edge. Good luck

Thanks for taking the time to look at it and share your thoughts and suggestions. When I look at something for too long I feel like I can become blind to it. It's very helpful to hear what you see.

i think it's much too long....
a folio needs to be tight. it is not a collection of all the works you have produced but a selection of the top. pick the 1-2 pieces that best represent a skill, ie photography, drawing, model making, technical drawing. each piece that is not great, dilutes away from the quality of the overall work.
