portfolio critique

liviu.tedorescu

Deadlines are coming up after Saint Nick and the Horror Season. Any suggestions are extremely helpful. It's not done (the numbering on the upper right corner...presentation text).

I've decided to have for each project a short presentation text. I tried to spread the text all over but I feel this works best with my work. There are some key text elements which float around the renderings. I don't know if that's ok or not.

The reason behind that is that I think that nobody reads the text but everybody likes to look at stills so ... yeah.

Is the work ok ? Is it good ? I don't even know anymore because I got tired of looking at it when doing the portfolio.

I think its pretty nice. My critique is that you should be more rigorous with the use of the accent colors. I would stick to one or two and integrate that color more (For instance replace the gray bars on each page with it, but that might be too much depending on the color). Right now the use of color seems tacked on.

Overall I think it looks good. I like the graphics. Lay out seems to work, at times a little crowded. Page 16 has too much text.
Didn't finish it b/c it was taking forever to load, not sure if that was just me. But what I saw looked nice. Thumbs up.

@joshuamings: I think you're right about the colors. I'm going to try different variations and see how they work.

@Quentin: Yeah right on, there's too much text on page 16 and it's a good chance nobody will read it. I'll work on that, maybe shorten it to the bare essential and add some renderings or schematics. It seems too bleak right now. Thanks, really helpful comments!

Interesting work and nice clear graphic layout.

It may be good to show your initial ideas to show how the project developed into it's final version.

i think you have nice drawings and models for what makes a solid portfolio.

the text doesn't pop out at me right away - i didn't zoom in to read any of it at first because it is too homogenous. you have a standard format for each project (which is good) but i think you need to eliminate "_project title:" and just make the actual project title bigger and bolder to give quick context and order your pages. not too big and crazy, just enough to distinguish the title and separate it from the body of text. all other project details are informative and besides some funny english ("single facing glazing" page comes to mind), i think all your text, explanations and diagrams are fine.

maybe some pages could use minor reduction or aligning. i also think your 'diagrammatic section' on page 19 needs to be annotated with lines (like the one on page 25) instead of text covering parts of the image. the coloured words aren't doing it for me on that page.

but on the whole its very nice. professional and personal work blends.
