depending on how complex the model is…….. if its fairly simple and doesn’t have to be extremely precise i draw the plans in autocad as a simple line drawing save them as a dxf....then import in into max---but if it’s a complicated model that needs to be precise I model it in autocad
the quickest methods is up to you, since it depends on your 3d skills in max compare to autocad... But I find it easier now to import 2 d drawings previously cleand up (from text, characters, trees hatches and other bshit) and model everything in max.
quick question
just curious, when creating a viz/3dstudio model of a building, what is your process?
do you start in 3d autocad and import, or
start from scratch in the 3d program.. or
etc
thanks

autocad to sketchup to 3ds max

1. clean up acad files
2. import into FormZ or Max
3. Model away - I really don't like Max for arch modeling though, it's just too slow
Sketchup is looking good and I'll have to try it sometime, but for the time being, nothing is faster than formZ
