I'm surprised LCD Soundsystem wasn't mentioned by anyone.
Also, completely snubbed is Janelle Monae . Her album was named The ArchAndroid. Can you get any more arch than that? Anyways, awesome album. And I don't even really care for poppy r'n'b.
studs, both great cds. i forgot grinderman, duh. please tell me i am not an asshole, because i am genuflecting at the mumford altar - one album and they're the kings of the world?
Just discovered this kid like 3 weeks ago but you guys have to listen to James Blake. He released like 3 Eps this year, dont know if that counts as an album but kid is so fucking tight..
Got two recent favorites (listening to them over and over as I've been snowed in these last two days.):
(2010) JP, Chrissie, and The Fairground Boys, Fidelity: Chrissie Hynde's first non-Pretenders release and it's great - she's working with a young Welsh singer-songwriter, raw lyrics but still rock. Her voice is so incredible.
David Lowery's The Palace Guards: Lowery's first solo album. Sorta Cracker, sorta Camper, best of both, really. It's excellent.
(Yes, I realize my musical choices are those of an old lady. That's OK, I am.)
Favorite album from 2010
and she rhymes "anus" with "famous"....this has instant classic written all over it!
I also forgot to mention:
Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record

what about arcade fire?
re: R+B I actually have really been enjoying Erykah Badu's New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) this year, just bought it a few months ago.
Although it came out in 2008, enough that I want to check out # New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) (2010).
I liked what I have heard and seen of Janelle Monae but haven't purchased the record...
As for Arcade Fire i really liked their first, kind of liked their second and now am not sure what to feel about them
Second Gil Scott Heron up there^
What else? Joanna Newsom, Beachouse, Four Tet is ill this year.
Also Flying Lotus. Whaa
"Quiet Nights" Diana Krall....I would also vote her as the hottest female singer of the year~
usernametaken,
I am digging the Kvelertak. I just ordered it and last year's Black Breath ep for my sister. She needs some Christmas music. Hahaaa!
