AEC staffing/employment staffing? (NYC)

noneother3

I am wondering if anyone has hooked up with any AEC staffing firms or any other type of staffing firm for that matter.
Especially in NYC. If any one knows of any I think it would be a good idea if we post their names and numbers. I am currently working temp to hire at a property management gig, that I got via a recruiter that I sought out through a friend. I have an Architecture background and I am wondering if there are a few architecture staffing services, property mgmt, acct staffing etc. that have some work/doing well during this recovery. Good luck to you all!
Thanx guys.

P.S. I will start first INTERSOLUTIONS philly region property mgmt staffing services.

Rusty!

In my experience the staffing agencies were nothing but an utter waste of time. It makes sense since job openings to candidates ratio is extremely low. The ones in NYC were the worst. They would get you to come in, but would instead give you a sales pitch for revit training.

I see no reason to pass any names or numbers around. One has to make an extra effort even to avoid them.

They made sense in pre-internet days. It's an industry that needs to go the way of dodo bird. Or travel agencies.

First of all, do you work for intersolutions (is this a promotional thread?)
I have not used any services before but I know some people who have and this was their experience:
The architecture headhunting firms generally take a percentage out of your salary. This of course differs from MOST other professions where the employer pays the firm to provide employees. I haven't heard anyone tell of any positive experiences so far.

Side note: A few years ago (pre-2008) the headhunters were calling non-stop through several communication methods. Since then, I haven't heard anything from them so not sure how successful it will be.

i was picked up by a recruiter twice.... worked at 2 jobs due to that.... but they found me...... one recruiting company stuck me hard on hourly pay...the other was nice and made it happen..... so i'm 50/50 with these setups...

fyi, the jobs were for exhibit houses and not arch firms... but i did work on build outs for arch projects....so keep that in mind.....

I am currently doing some Property mgmt (via Intersolutions) work to pay the bills (this is not a promo thread). I talked to a recruiter over the phone and he basically told me that NYC is doing better, firms are starting to hire again.
He suggested that I not use a recruiter b/c i am at a intermediate level; that there are plenty of intermediate architects. Firms are not going to pay a recruiting fee b/c there are many architects at my experience level.
He offered some words of encouragement and told me to keep trying that things will be better in 3 to 6 months.

It was actually nice to hear good news for a change. And to be honest with you guys I believe him.

I just thought this would help. It definitely helped me(beats working retail and collecting unemployment.) I just wish I knew sooner.

Hey Binary are you located in NYC?

I've been thinking about Grad school. but not sure how to fund it. I've been thinking about the army but not sure.

Do you mind sharing what recruiting firms you've used?
I would like to give them a call.
