We have a great 72" wide window in our living room and want to install wooden blinds like we have thru the rest of our first floor. The window has two smaller sections at the top that we DO NOT want to cover....to do this we will need to mount the blinds about 24" from the top of the window...The problem is that we need to somehow attach a center support bracket. These are newer (5 years) vinyl windows and I'd guess that they were manufactured as "one piece"... Does anyone have an ideas as to how to attached a center support without drilling thru the vinyl window frame???? Thanks
screw mounting brackets into the jambs of the opening. span a 1" steel tube between the brackets. clad steel tube to match adjacent finishes. no center support.
if you do use studs, i would make a box header instead of attaching to a single stud. you will also likely have to take out your window casing to ensure you make a proper attachment at the jamb.
the advantage of the steel tube is that it will have a thinner profile that will be easier to conceal. in any case, don't attach anything to the window frame; you will void your warranty and very likely damage your window.

Four options:
Drill windows.
Install a header-- messy, probably ugly.
Buy specialty blinds for just this purpose-- expensive.
Support the blinds in the middle with piano wire-- barely noticeable.

won and done.... was thinking of maybe using a steel stud (2x4) and mounting directly to that....any thoughts?
