ok, currently tired doing studio project. pardon if i just do them in bullet points:
circumstances:
-attended 5 yrs architecture, currently a registered architect abroad, 7 yrs work experience in a global city. passion leaning towards contemporary and progressive archi...
-went back to school to further archi dispositions and accreditations.
- currently in Georgia, definitely settling and planning to find work on a contemporary firm in LA next yr.
- got straight A's so far in this school
- unhappy that the studios didnt help much boosting my existing folio, other courses were beneficial. current disposiiton of our chair is leaning towards classicism and new urbanism.
- i am proud of my portfolio and experiences, its just a question whether spending money on something that i HALF-LIKED is worth it...
Sounds to me you just wanted to get a 1 year Masters in order to establish some US credibility. Quick and dirty. $40K sounds insane, but maybe as an international student there were no cheaper options. I say you just finish off the year and move on. You can make most out of the situation. You find new urbanism silly? It is. That's why you concentrate on post-new urbanism. Or Post-Nurb.
Post-Nurb may be the most exciting thing that will transpire in architectural filed in the next decade or so. What is it? Noone knows as of yet. It's your to define it. Now get cracking!
No! Keep the money, that's way to much to waste on not being productive. At this stage if you don't support the schools direction, forget it. Presumably you think there is some change in the works, you need a good folio whatever happens-postpone.
ask yourself this: is the anguish school-specific or arch-school in general? Im in a similar situation where I'm back in academia after a few years off. There are a lot of painful days (honestly, 95%), but at the end of the day I dont think it's going to be drastically different at any other school.. it's just a painful readjustment and hopefully we get used to it. It's tough for you as you'll only be there a year and your pain is entirely self-imposed. on the other hand: you'll only be there a year. suck it up.
Also, having a shitty professor will properly prepare you for a lifetime of having shitty clients. Lowering one's expectations is a key to happier existence.
my anguish is that i wanna spend money at the same time purchase something that i feel is worth my buck. im frugal :D
a good purchase , at least for me, is an academia that leans towards progression and at the same time add a greater global market value on me as i will be re-''selling'' myself again afterwards (in contemporary cities like LA, NY, or Singapore etc)
Actually seems the post nurb issue sorted already:- GSD going for ecological urbanism see other discussion today. See, keep striving, you know more than you know Nurb so yesterday!

I'd personally try to create "post-urbana landscapism."
