GRE/TOEFL submitted after the deadline?

archict

Hi everyone!

so I am currently interested to apply Masters program to good archi schools like GSAPP, CED Berkeley, GSD, DAAP Cincinnati

I heard from a friend of mine that what matters the most is my portfolio/letter of recommendations/personal statement (which is true). My friend also told me that the deadline to submit the application stated on the schools website may refer to other application materials (portfolio, etc), schools are generally more relaxed on GRE and Toefl scores. However each individual school is different.

Is this true and which school does this?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not 100% but I don't think Columbia requires a GRE score. You should check for the others.
You can also just ask the graduate directors, directly. I had one director flat out tell me that what matters in his program is the portfolio and to not put to much faith in the GRE. He said it was still important (they took gre scores), but it was not a deal breaker if you had a low gre and a great portfolio; Portfolio always wins out.

it should not be much of an issue.

Gotta call them. When applying to undergrad, I got accepted to one Univ's architecture program, but missed the deadline for the general Univ (which, of course, they did not tell me). I would have had to wait another year to reapply to the general Univ (even though the requirements were far less for the general school, just a stupid technicality). Fate worked out though, and I got/went to a better school.

For grad school, if I recall correctly (and this was a long time ago), Berkeley had an early deadline and strict presentation guidelines. To make it, I had to make all of my portfolios meet the lowest common denominators (like 25 pages, boudn this way or that, etc.). Not a big deal if you plan for it (I made the deadlines and got accepted), but many didn't plan ahead enough and missed the deadline.

GRE is like that stupid technicality I mentioned - just a formality that the general U would require, like a minimum gpa, but really has nothing to do with the architecture school (but you still gotta get into the overall U).

Good luck!
