Snow Creek Cottages, Park City’s newest workforce housing community, received the Project of the Year Award from the Utah Housing Coalition. The award is given annually to an affordable housing project that demonstrates leadership in design, financing and targeting community needs.
Snow Creek Cottages was developed by Park City Municipal Corporation to meet the workforce housing needs of the Park City community.
Project Consists of:
13 detached houses
3 two bedroom & 10 three bedroom homes
1½ car garage
The Snow Creek Cottages were available for sale through a lottery process that took place in March, 2010.
The Snow Creek Cottages are architecturally designed and planned to afford buyers physical integrity, environmental protection, functional usage, visual compatibility, and high value ownership in Park City. This project provides for integration with the unique existing infrastructure, local ambiance, and appearance. All the elements that make up contextual visual appropriateness have been addressed and a complementary neighborhood will be achieved. Only about one third of the maximum land density has been occupied and the individual tax burden on new owners should be minimized.
All homes are designed to meet the 2008 National Green Building Standards adopted in January of 2009, and for compliance with current energy efficiency concerns, minimization of waste, and long-term sustainability. The Snow Creek Cottages are a new model and indication of what might be accomplished throughout the country. Home designs include the following sustainable design approaches and building systems:
Grid-tied photovoltaic panels provide power to offset consumption
Ground source heat pump systems
Structurally Integrated Panel (SIPs) framing of walls and roofs
Minimization of building envelope to reduce heat loss
Installation of “energy star” appliances and equipment
Low and No VOC finishes and components
Incorporation of recycled materials
Solar generated hot water
Recycling of waste materials
An abbreviated construction period
