Daddy at the drop of a hat is the latest artsy Café and bar of India’s High-Tech city Bengaluru. With a total area of over 18,000 sq. feet, it spans over two floors including a terrace. Ar. Abhigyan Neogi in his euphoria assures that this ethereal restaurant imbibes an out of the ordinary schema throughout. The client’s brief also mentioned to outline a space inspired by Pop culture instilled with astonishing pieces of artworks & geometric flooring patterns all around the expanse.
With an array of circular cut outs and quirky graphics on the wall, the notion was to break the monotony of the usual bar spaces in the city. Here, the architect fabricated the front façade boasting of ss lit tubular structures in multiple configurations sighted in the foreground of curved balcony spaces, also enticing an inviting feel for the personage crossing by. The entrance is marked by a panelled wall with colourful posters clasping the attention of the patrons.
As we delve further into the design, we see that this sumptuous domain is classified into 3 zones, i.e., Private (PDRs), Semi Private (Balcony, Terrace) and Public (Bar). The segregation between these spaces is seamless and smooth with juxtapositioned imposing circular voids in walls and grand sturdy doors made in wood & glass. This partition wall with circular voids between dining and bar area is fabricated with a dual agenda of unifying the whole floor into one. These circular cutouts are accessorized with unique lighting elements circumscribed by rings, adding to the dynamism that the space stands as a stalwart for. Exposed dark grey ceiling inside vouchsafes a raw punk air to the arena.
One enters this lavish arena through the Public Zone. A modish dining set-up here, with soft colour scheme including rose pink and aqua blue with extra- terrestrial décor elements leave the patrons awestruck. The nuance added through a spectacular incorporation of artworks on various elements of design expounds the concept of this restaurant, where modernized and creative art adds on to the young and edgy feel of the regime.
The PDRs zone, on the right include various human figures re-positioned in metallic frames on patterned walls. Few dangling sculptural pieces illuminate the tables beneath. The PDRs zone at the back is kindled with idiosyncratic lighting elements aiding to the abstraction of the very space. A new futuristic approach employed towards colorful design elements placed in bookshelves add a pop vibe to the overall aesthetic value.
On the other side of the Public Zone, lies the bar area where a long serpentine bar showcasing Greek figures inside a glass facia serves as the showstopper of the expanse. Black and white terrazzo tile flooring used in this area breaks the tediousness of the wooden flooring running throughout the space. Egg crates used as a design element for fabricating the ceiling design for this area manifests to be a distinguished and untried constituent aiding to the already zestful experience of the patrons.
A sleek gleaming balcony in the front, with monochromatic pattern tile flooring creates a feeling of hallucination. The lighting here replicates unusual bird configurations brightening up the space.
Bestowing a lush, fresh and vibrant vibe to the ambiance, is the pensively designed terrace. Its lucid and moderate persona is assimilated through serene furniture and minimalistic use of material, rooting an unconstrained and breezy spirit to the atmosphere. Juxtaposition of yellow, grey and white in the flooring formulate a distinguished spirit. Display of protruding horse sculptures in red & blue, having plates etched with colorful graphics grant the walls with an unconventional demeanor. The terrace bar, serving as the focal facet boasts of colorful graphical posters below the counter, supplementing the existing essence of vitality. Plants are hung from pendant lights with an aim of infusing connectivity between the built environment, the users and the natural environs circumscribed.
Daddy with all its eccentricities, puts together a wide range of concoction of exuberant design elements. Placing a staunch in the hospitality sector, this martian project sets an example for designers to bring in a new-fangled approach to the already modern contemporary trends of hospitality design.
