Red River College Princess Street Campus is a state-of-the-art business, multi-media, and information technology learning centre. The campus, located in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, showcases a strong commitment to “green” architecture and historic conservation. New construction complements the restored facades and interior spaces of five prominent heritage buildings on Princess Street as well as a 1905 warehouse on William Avenue. An atrium, bisecting the historic Princess Street buildings, juxtaposes old and new – and forms the heart of the Campus. The project has received international recognition and multiple awards for sustainable design. As one of the first significant construction projects in the Exchange, the college provided a strong foundation for sustainable development in the area and an opportunity to enhance the existing urban community.

The College represents an aggressive approach to cutting edge facility design as the programs it houses require the latest in information technology infrastructure, electronic equipment, naturally lit art spaces, television and sound studios, and contemporary learning environments. The campus is living proof that old buildings and abandoned sites can be developed for modern functions while maintaining sensitivity to history and existing urban fabric. The facility also functions as a demonstration project for other large organizations looking for innovative and environmentally responsible building solutions. Much of the success of this project was due to the Integrated Design Process; by working closely with the client, builders, and all stakeholders, the project was realized on budget and ahead of schedule.
