Dobbs Ferry, NY
Nestled within 12 acres in Putnam County, New York, the Garrison House perches atop glacial stone deposits that slope to a cliff and sweeping views of the valley. The previous home, built in 1985, was destroyed by fire before the current homeowners bought the property. This presented the couple with an opportunity to reimagine the site to suit their tastes and serve their young, active family.
The house is set into the side of a hill, fully exploiting the expansive view while integrating the structure into its surrounding topography. This setting inspired the creation of channels for the seamless flow of indoor/outdoor activity. Constructed with raw natural materials such as wood screen siding and COR-TEN Steel, the home’s unusual contemporary barn-style architecture blends the individual tastes and preferences of the homeowners. The interior design creates communal spaces for the family to share together as well as secluded spaces affording quiet privacy.
