The Office of Thierry W Despont, Ltd. is a design firm that specializes in luxury residential work, hotels and retail, as well as museum projects and historical restorations. With offices in New York, the firm has a staff of some 40 architects and decorators, and has acquired an outstanding reputation as a foremost design firm with an elite clientele in North America and Europe.
Mr. Despont was Associate Architect for the Centennial Restoration of the Statue of Liberty and has completed the restoration of Clayton, the Frick family mansion in Pittsburgh. Mr. Despont designed the Decorative Arts galleries of the new J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and in collaboration with Richard Meier, was responsible for the interior design of the museum's sculpture and painting galleries. The firm designed the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue on East 63rd Street in New York. Retail projects have included the Ralph Lauren store on Bond Street in London, as well as stores for Harry Winston and Chopard. The firm has created numerous private residences in Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain and all across the United States and The Bahamas. Mr. Despont and his office have also completed several very high end hotel projects. Among them are the renovation of the Carlyle Hotel and The Chatwal in New York; Claridge’s, The Dorchester and 45 Park Lane in London; the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Florida; and the Divan Hotel in Istanbul. Currently the office is in charge of the renovation and redesign of the Hotel Ritz in Paris, slated for re- opening in 2015.
Mr. Despont is a Knight of the French Legion of Honor and a Knight of the Arts and Letters as well as a member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame.
