Thesis Statement: 

As California cities steadily grow in size along with the intensity of the urban lifestyle, an increasing amount of today’s youth miss out on the freedoms and benefits of outdoor play in untouched natural environments.

These types of playful experiences have historically promoted not only physical health but also a genuine sense of imagination and creativity, and yet many of today’s city play space alternatives fail to provide children with the quality of situations, challenges and experiences that they need to grow.

This thesis proposes a type of rich and whimsical playscape architecture that is inspired by nature and actively engages urban youth through natural risk and curious conditions in order to promote the use of imagination in their daily lives.
