With the final year of his graduate studies coming to a close, Eric is preparing to complete his academic career with a Master of Architecture from Clemson University. He previously studied at Ball State University, earning a Bachelors of Science in the discipline of Architecture. He has worked as a Student Fellow in the Institute for Digital Fabrication and as a Graduate Assistant for various faculty and staff. He has participated in the academic process by teaching a seminar on digital visualization as well as appearing as a critic in several juries. He has worked professionally as an intern architect in WWCOT / DLR Group’s Shanghai office as well as a freelance graphic designer. His work has been recognized in numerous competitions, most recently winning first place in international Design to Zero competition.. Eric has traveled independently and as a student to nearly 40 countries ranging from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. His portfolio is available online at www.ericmlaine.com.

At w/purpose my responsibilities included: drafting, schematic design, graphic design, master planning, 3D visualizations, client relations, and the creation of several project proposals. I have worked on projects ranging from educational master plans to small scale interior design projects.
DLR Group/WWCOT, Shanghai, CN, Intern Architect
While at DLR Group / WWCOT Shanghai, I was placed on a team led by project manager Forest Lynn. We were selected to participate in a competition to develop a new corporate district in Ningbo, a city three hours south of Shanghai. I was specifically asked to design the aluminum screen that would define the HQ of a major Chinese oil company. The primary challenges were developing a system for fabrication, and a parametrically controlled perforated pattern. Utilizing my familiarity with Grasshopper, I was quickly able to research and develop a definition that yielded the desired effect.

AIAS / Kawneer National Competition, 1st Place
The New Order project was also entered in the annual AIAS / Kawneer National Competition which accepts applicants from architecture students across the US. My project was awarded First Place at the annual AIAS conference in Washington, DC.
