Two Bed Villa

With over 600m2 internal floor area and 300m2 associated external landscaping, including a swimming pool, the driving architectural aspiration for this villa was to achieve a sleek and elegant structural solution to assist the creation of light and open spaces within. 

Exposed concrete slabs which were both tapered and faceted were used in conjunction with tapered steel ‘pencil’ columns and concrete walls. 
The site is in the Caribbean, in a very high seismic zone. One key challenge was designing a structure which was capable of resisting the high earthquake forces whilst retaining a slim and minimalist profile. 
The villa was divided into three blocks, each with its own independent stability system. For additional structural capacity without increasing thickness, steel columns were cast within the concrete walls.
