475 Clermont

Durukan Design provided services for the interior design of a new construction 12-story residential building located at 475 Clermont Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Approximating 400,000 square feet, 475 Clermont gives tenants the opportunity to reside at the intersection of 2 of Brooklyn’s more renown neighborhoods, Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. These neighborhoods continue to grow and adapt along with New York’s fast paced lifestyle, which meant the interiors at 475 Clermont had to be treated in a similar timeless fashion.

475 Clermont provides 363 rental units along with a rooftop and courtyard lounge, fitness center, lounge/game room, business center, children’s playroom and pet spa. The underlying concept for the amenities centers around bringing cool tones and modern/industrial materials together with warm tones and natural materials. The combination resulted in a hybrid style with raw steel, natural stones, and all-white materials being complimented by more natural materials. At the lobby, raw steel panels highlight designated seating and reception areas with the floor and ceiling frames being composed of stone tiles and raw steel respectively – a large custom sawn wood reception desk brings natural elements into the space. The 2nd floor houses the majority of the building’s amenity spaces – the business center, kid’s room and outdoor play area, a fully equipped gym and yoga room. Industrial style glass partitions frame the walls to the amenity spaces with mixtures of brick, stone, and wood panels being applied to the interiors. On the same level, the amenity spaces open up to the inner courtyard offering an array of seating arrangements alongside outdoor fireplaces. Looming over the courtyard is a large green life mural painting offering the interiors a symbolic representation of Brooklyn’s street art culture. At the 9th floor, tenants have access to a lounge which opens to a large rooftop terrace with sunbathing chaises, dining/BBQ/fireplace lounge area, outdoor screening area and outdoor games ranging from bocce ball, table tennis, and shuffleboard all complimented by a panoramic view of NYC. The residential levels provide a little more warmth through the use of additional colors. Apartment entrances are highlighted in a blue tone bordered by black panels framing the recessed threshold. A similar tone of blue is applied to the kitchen cabinetry contrasting with the light oak wood flooring. Bathrooms remain slightly colder in tone with the usage of black and white stone tiles with the warm tones coming from the black aluminum/wood vanity.

In order for 475 Clermont’s interiors to maintain a timeless industrial style, material selections played a pivotal role. Natural materials were utilized to bring warmth to the spaces allowing the spaces to grow through the times as the materials begin to age. Outdoor mural paintings, raw steel paneling and frames, and natural stone tiles were utilized to represent the raw and chic style of Brooklyn New York. Durukan Design brought these materials together in an effort to personify an ever-growing NYC in one of Brooklyn’s most popular neighborhoods.
