“Otic” relating to the ear. This project, an ecotherapy center located in Big Sur, California, uses sounds resonating in the architectural spaces created as a therapeutic element. The center is a place for users to visit and experience nature specifically for therapy. 

The structure of the center is broken into three parts - an institutional space, a common space for group therapy and finally, an individual space for personal enlightenment.

With large oversized sound mirrors on either side of the building, the sounds of the crashing of nearby waves and the rustling of the trees in the forest will reverberate off of the smooth concrete curved spaces. Like a gong in a meditative mindset, the rhythmic crashing will aid in the journey to a calmer mind.
