Conservation management plan of Tirumetrali temple

Arulmigu Brammapurishwarar Thirukovil is situated in close proximity to the river in Pattishwaram town, which falls under the Kumbhakonam district, Tamil Nadu. The town also locally known as Pazhayarai is a city of historic importance. It is a town that is intimately connected with the royal family of the Chola lineage. The town was at heights of political importance under Nandivarman-II and Parameshvara Varman (early 8th Century) and also finds its mention in Sangam literature.

The temple complex comprises of a Shiva shrine, adjoining Antarala and mandapam that is shared by the Ambal or Parvathi’s shrine that is circumscribed by a compound wall in some locations and a Kalkaram or base of the Gopuram. The temple is was found to be dilapidated, which is mainly due to poor maintenance. The arda-mandapa wall has de-bonded from the garbhagriha of the Shiva shrine and the roof of the same has collapsed. The temple complex belongs the early Chola period and comprises of inscriptions thereby warranting careful study and intervention.
