Framing Philly

The premise of the project formulated in a short, 2 week charette, deals directly with the DISPARITY between Philadelphia east and west of I-95. The fine grain, walkable urban fabric is CUT-OFF from the WATERFRONT by I-95 and the result is an automobile scaled fabric west of the interstate causing it to be unwalkable. The proposal is to create a SUPER-STRUCTURE interstate whose height not only allows the FINE GRAIN FABRIC to GROW BACK TO THE WATER underneath it, but actually is a physical FRAME WORK. The superstructure’s supporting pilons will be strategically placed to ANCHOR  GROWTH in specified areas, which align with a CONTIGUOUS PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE of streets leading from down-town Philly to the waterfront.
