The Courtyard

THE COURTYARD

The neighbouring site of the new FNB building on 2nd Avenue is a proposed development, The Courtyard. A 19 000 square meter mixed-use commercial building was designed to provide retail shopping, a Virgin Active gym and commercial office space.
The width of the site allowed Bomax to design an internal courtyard for people to meet and socialize in a café environment.
The 2nd Avenue projects aim to promote the street culture that Bloemfontein was once known for and has been designed to provide a connection with the pedestrians, using accessible public spaces on the ground floors.

HUMAN-DRIVEN DESIGN

“For this precinct, and using what fabric we can, we have redesigned existing buildings to create a consistent architectural language in the area. We want to create a mix of heritage Bloemfontein and contemporary architecture with classical forms and proportions.

We believe that this will breathe new life into the existing shopping mall and Bloemfontein itself. The design considers all of the environmental, heritage and traffic issues while creating an accessible design that the community deserves,” - Dion Walters
