With less than a month away from Advancing Sustainability: Business + Design Symposium, Woodbury University students are working vigorously until the big day. The symposium is an annual event that explores various areas in new technology and sustainable concepts focusing on environmental, socioeconomically, and infrastructural issues. The symposium is hosted by TBD, an organization founded and run by students. The Advancing Sustainability team consists of students from various disciplinary backgrounds and career goals, coming together for a common mission: to ensure the sustainability of our environment. Having only heard about the organization, bright and environmentally conscience students across the university decided to join the cause. These students are juniors, seniors, or 5th years enrolled in Woodbury’s widely recognized School of Architecture, School of Business, School of Transdisciplinary studies, and School of Media, Culture, and Design. The organization is structured into areas of operations, finance, marketing, branding, program, research, and experience design. Students join groups consisting of duties beyond their area of study, expanding their knowledge and capabilities. A year of planning leading up to the event focuses on every detail. The theme of the event changes annually, however revolves around the topic of sustainability in business and design. The 2012 symposium will focus on the “cardiovascular system” of a city, its infrastructure. After the topic is decided, students contact professionals in the field, organize speakers and panel discussions. This event provides many opportunities to students involved. Students, academia, and accomplished professionals attend the event offering many networking opportunities. The event is open to the public and the cost to attend is very minimal. Lunch and refreshments will be provided at no cost, along with other exciting details. This opportunity comes along only once a year, so make sure to reserve your seat!
After a highly successful Advancing Sustainability: Business + Design Symposium in October of 2011, students from Woodbury University have gathered once again in order to prepare their second annual event. The topic of this year focuses on the "cardiovascular system" of a city—its infrastructure. The discussion will investigate how various infrastructures—perform, exchange, and are incorporated into the natural environment.
