Max Kuo is a founding partner in the collaborative office of ALLTHATISSOLID. He has an interdisciplinary background in art, architectural design, and media. He has produced work through artist-in-residency programs at the Whitney Museum, Independent Studies Program and in Beijing through Red Gate Gallery. His art practice consists of projects which interrogate the cultural politics of architectural representation, urban constituencies, and uneven global development. Marc Carrel currently serves as Legislative and Public Affairs Program Supervisor for the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) where he oversees federal legislative affairs and community outreach programs. He has 15 years of experience working on transportation, environment, energy, and election policy at the federal, state and local levels.

Before joining SCAQMD, Carrel served as Deputy Chief of Staff to a senior Member
of Congress. He oversaw policy development and community relations for her office,
coordinating the Congresswoman’s legislative efforts in Washington with policy initiatives in

Dr. Matt Miyasato is the Assistant Deputy Executive Officer for the Technology Advancement Office at the South Coast Air Quality Management District. In this role, Dr. Miyasato leads the groups responsible for research, development, demonstration and deployment of clean, advanced technologies for both mobile and stationary sources.

Dr. Miyasato received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, and his Masters and Ph.D. in Engineering, specializing in combustion technologies and air pollution control – all from the University of California, Irvine. After a highly successful Advancing Sustainability: Business + Design Symposium in October of 2011, students from Woodbury University have gathered once again in order to prepare their second annual event. The topic of this year focuses on the "cardiovascular system" of a city—its infrastructure. The discussion will investigate how various infrastructures—providers of core operational supply (transportation systems, energy and water supply, communications, built environment)—perform, exchange, and are incorporated into the natural environment. With speakers such as Charles Renfro, opportunities for networking and a panel discussion, this year's symposium will not only be focused on learning about sustainability, but also understanding the basic components that are necessary in creating a sustainable city and examples of existing or developing projects.
