As most of you are aware, the government recently announced it would rescind the July 6, 2020 ICE SEVP guidance that would prohibit F-1 students enrolled in online-only schools during the Fall semester to maintain visa status.
We join The Presidents’ Alliance in its ardent support and exuberance of this decision and would like to thank MIT and Harvard for spearheading this lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.
ICE has removed July 6th guidance as well as July 7th FAQ from the list of guidance documents on their website. Therefore, as per the court settlement, schools and F-1 students are operating under March 13th guidance which allows flexibility for F-1 students to remain in valid status while pursuing a full course of study online from inside or outside the U.S. We will keep the students updated on any new and relevant updates to the policy FAQs. This reversal is a tremendous victory for international students everywhere! And, it reinforces the notion that we are stronger when we act together in a unified way to effect positive change.
We should feel proud of the swift actions our BAC community made to ensure all of our students, regardless of where they live, continue to receive the highest levels of excellence in design education in a safe and welcoming environment.
While we all celebrate this good news, we must also recognize the fight is not yet over. I look to each of you to continue to support and advocate for our international students. Together, we must safeguard the globally inclusive mission that makes the BAC such a diverse and accessible institution.
Thank you for your unwavering support of diversity, inclusiveness, and commitment to our mission. As always, we are #InThisTogether and #YouAreWelcomeHere!
All my best,
President Mahesh Daas
