On holiday in IBIZA, the worlds party central, and the first thing whilst walking down the Bossa strip that catches my eye is the architecture - at least I know I'm doing the right degree!! The typical tourist areas that I visited didn't exactly show much of the residential housing side of the island, but what I did see gave me a great insight to the traditional architecture.

I didn't manage to get many photos as I didn't take my camera everywhere with me, but have managed to find a few of the buildings - or similar ones, on good old google.  Not quite sure how to embed the images within the text on the blog yet, bare with me!!

One of the first things I noticed whilst landing was a small building similar to the one below right on the edge of the runway. There was a rectangular building sitting behind a round feature that looked like it could have previously been a mill of some sort. From then on I noticed similar features within the housing throughout the island, when in a taxi or just walking through the centres. Very simple, rectangular designs, stone walls, roofs are flat and covered in beams, white exterior render and small windows. Most of the buildings had a porch that was arched with the entrance behind.

After doing some research I have found that all of the above features are those of the 'traditional Ibician house.' The white render and stone material used to reflect the sunlight and keep the building cool, the flat roofs and beams were used to collect rainwater for consumption. I also found out that the round building I seen next to the runway could have intact been used as a kiln, mill or barn.
