I am an architect with strong interests & experience in:

Bespoke Residential Design
Historic Buildings
& Student housing

I am currently studying  building conservation methods with Historic Environment Scotland and working freelance throughout Scotland.

I spent the last four years working in Canterbury in Kent where I gained a passion for historic buildings. Please see my work with Clague architects or my online portfolio ( for more details.

While working full time at Clague Architects in Kent I graduated from The University of Greenwich in London in 2016 with a Pg Dip in Architectural Practice - at the same time passing my RIBA part 3 exam.

I graduated from Strathclyde University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Architectural Design in summer of 2012 & in 2011 with a BSc (Hons 2:1) in Architectural Studies.  My time there helped develop a technical and business-like approach to architecture and gave me skills in exhibition curating, presentation & public speaking as well as computer aided and freehand design drawing and model making.

CDP Architects, Glasgow, GB, RIBA Part 1 Architectural Assistant

“Aileen very quickly established herself within the CDP design team...

Her departure was a loss to our design team. We wish her continued success in her career and are certain that she will be a strong addition to any architectural practice. “
William Findlater. Managing Director CDP Architects.

As part of a close design team in a small office I not only learned a considerable amount about architecture and design but also about printing drawings, using new software and handling a range of clients. On an average day as well as doing design drawings, I contacted clients, councils, engineers and other professionals using letters, telephone, email and conducted meetings.

Constructs llc, Accra, GH, Architectural Research and Design Assistant

I volunteered with Constructs LLC in Accra, Ghana (West Africa) for one month during the summer before my third year of study at university.

During my time here I designed sustainable housing for the local people in Accra and also helped represent the company in the international “Make It Right” competition, rebuilding sustainable housing in New Orleans. Our design took inspiration from some of the traditional vernacular's of Ghana and took forms from the patterns from the Ghanaian traditional Kente cloth.

The practice worked mainly on affordable sustainable housing and combined the director's professional experience in the UK and US with his cultural connections to his home country of Ghana.

The University of Greenwich, London, GB, Architectural Practice PG Dip

Part time evening study in architectural practice ultimately ending in my passing the RIBA Part 3 exam and my qualification as a RIBA chartered architect.

The course covered contact administration of common building contracts, construction law, practice management and marketing methods.

Sep 2014 - Apr 2016

University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, GB, Architectural Studies BArch & Postgradutate Diploma in Advanced Architectural Design

Attained my Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Architectural Design (RIBA part 2 certified) at The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 2012. Achieved in 2011 a 2:1 honours in Architectural Studies.

For my 5th year thesis project I chose to explore the theme of ecotourism. The end product was Dalnahaitnach Forest Learning Centre & Ecotourism Community. This project reflects many of my architectural interests; eco-architecture, Scottish vernacular, construction details, community identity, social responsibility in architecture, materiality, passive design, lighting, and masterplanning at every level.

Titled “How Does Scotland's Housing Expo move Scottish housing towards a modern vernacular?” I enjoyed interviewing architects to discuss many subjects which I find crop up time and time again in Scottish architecture.

4th Year Honours Project

This project was an architect’s dream; a small departmental library for the Catholic University in the small Bavarian City of Eichstatt in Germany. I enjoyed exploring relationships between the city and the student, looking at the materiality of the surroundings and the student’s need to look introspectively while studying in a rich architectural environment.
