LIVE (ART)CHIVE LIBRARY

Completion: 2016 - Third year of BSc at Cardiff University

Gross floor area: 2850m2

The project brief required us to design a library for Birkenhead in Liverpool. We had to come up with our own briefing for the library. Live (Art)chive Library is a library that takes a twist on the idea of libraries and moves away from its traditional program. Birkenhead is one of the poorest areas in Liverpool and suffers from poverty. The Tate Liverpool was the first of its kind to use art for economic regeneration. Art is an interesting medium that can bring people together at galleries.

The library is one that holds art, specifically art that is done by the locals in the area. This archive of art is also available for loans to the public if they so desire. This makes up the collection of the library and brings the community in to view and see what the local art community is up to. The idea of the library is to help with the regeneration of Birkenhead but also to help the community itself grow.
