At Gary/Chicago Airport, I had the opportunity to work with the Airport Administrator Bill Staehle and the Airport Engineer, Ken Ross to provide Architectural and Engineering Services for the New Aircraft Maintenance Hangar. The Hanger (30,000 sf) was designed to incorporate office and support areas for the Airlines staff (18,000 sf), and a future Air Power and Frame Vocational School (20,000 sf).
The Hangar project had a $7,500,000 construction cost. This project, along with a New Terminal Renovation have set the stage for Gary/Chicago Airport to legitimately become the third airport for the Chicago. Recently, Boeing has leased the Hangar for its Corporate Jet Fleet. And by the way, the unusual Braced Arm Canopy Doors open in less than 60 seconds!
The following are our ideologues of their project, which was completed in Winter of 2001.
Note: The facility was leased to the Boeing Corporation in 2004 with a new interior build-out by them.
Status: Built
