The Taunton WRAP team utilized trauma-informed design to create a therapeutic environment indoors and out for women substance users who have experienced years of trauma. The design and construction teams worked closely with DCAMM and DMH to break down the institutional feeling of the former mental hospital building by creating open and inviting common spaces, opening up walls to offer views through shared spaces to newly landscaped therapeutic courtyards, and using color to create identity for each resident’s bedroom.
