The Lantern Quest is a scavenger hunt designed around 12 - 25 Principles or Virtues. Each Lantern is engraved with a

poetic meditation on its inscribed Principle and, inside, has a jar of matching tokens. Questers take a journey through the
Principles by collecting all of the tokens and assembling the pieces. We have done three iterations of this project at four
festivals. To complete the puzzle, Questers must venture into the most populous and most isolated limits of the festival
grounds. Some Lanterns can only be seen in the day, and others are only noticeable at night. This project encourages a
rereading of an existing landscape through introspective play. Often the Questers will wear their tokens, signifying
themselves to others and creating a layer of social networking.
