Kumasi International Airport

The Kumasi International Airport project is located on the continent of Africa. Specifically, the country of Ghana, in one of its most prospering cities, Kumasi. This metropolis possesses a long established culture rooted in traditions created by the Ashanti People. This society now seeks to create a city that is crafted with a consciousness for the future, while incorporating its spirited past. The airport is intended to be a gateway and bold introduction to a distinctive African Modernism.

The architecture itself is partially an expansion of concepts explored in the previous “Academy of The Arts and Engineering” project, infused with influences from
Ashanti musical instrumentation. The airport’s visual style takes aesthetics from a harp like instrument called a Seperewa, its composition consists of numerous strings stretched from a standing bridge to the neck, vertically raised above a wood resonator. Much of the aesthetic articulations emulate those characteristics.
