Architect and Futurist Paolo Soleri gained great notoriety from his book “The City In The Image Of Man”. Many of his visionary creations were entitled “Arcology”, which is a combination of the words architecture and ecology. His philosophy was about
engineering an entire city as one singular cohesive structure, in an attempt to bring
environmental sustainability and cultural prosperity into one harmonious evolving endeavor. 

One of my very first architectural projects centered on introductory 3D modeling techniques applied towards an extremely simplified conceptualization of how an arcology might manifest. Traditional architectural documentation and limitations were not essential, just illustrate a compelling idea. My final result portrayed a synthetic island that descended deep beneath the waters surface, harvesting resources to preserve its population up above.
