Erin Sharp Newton is Archinect Author of Newton's Notes, holds a Master’s in Architecture from UCLA and a Master’s in Design from Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. She currently serves as President to AIACNJ.org, and as the Centre Director to the Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health.
Her exposure and experience spans all areas of design, from architecture to the fine arts, from industrial design to technology. Her background living and working between the US and Europe has provided a unique context for development and contributions, enabling her to offer vision, creative intelligence and critical solutions to the design process. As a Design Director, her focus is on changing attitudes around designing for healthcare, mental health and all other social areas of design.
An advocate for human concerns in design, including serving as a Fellow at the Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health, as Chair for the Department of Health & Human Services Hunterdon County Local Advisory Committee on Drugs and Alcohol, and the former Vice President on the Executive Board of an Outpatient Drug Awareness Program, she supports solutions from a grass roots to global level. For these efforts she was awarded the Top 50 Women in Business Award through NJBiz.
Recognized for her leadership and advocacy for the architecture of mental health, she contributes a sharp, intense, and humanistic approach to architectural design, and Behavioral Healthcare Design. She also serves as the Co-Chair to the Women in Architecture Committee, Co-Chair to the Equity in Architecture Committee and is an At-Large Trustee for AIA NJ. She was acknowledged by the Charter High School of Architecture and Design for outreach to Children’s Crisis Treatment Center in Philadelphia, and aims to lift up through design in all her affairs.
Her favorite part of life is spending time with her husband, step-daughter, family & friends.
