About

Silvia Ruiz-Poveda

I hold a Master degree from Polytechnic University of Madrid / ETSAM, a NAAB accredited 5-year architecture school, graduated in 2016. I also spent a semester abroad studying Architecture at Seoul National University (SNU). In addition to my architectural studies, I pursued my interest in arts and cinema by studying Art Direction at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London (summer of 2012) and Film Production at UCLA (summer of 2014).

I am a Master Architect with experience working both in the U.S. and Spain on a variety of BIM projects, ranging from large to small size and different typologies such as football stadiums, entertainment venues, healthcare, hospitality, residential affordable housing, commercial buildings, rehabilitation projects, and mixed-use developments. I am a very determined and diligent worker. I efficiently deliver promising results in the design of projects due to my creative curiosity, my passion and desire to increase quality. I have been a member of AIA since January 2022 and I’ve participated in different courses such as the in and outs of accessibility, Field-Installed Composite Design: Achieving Superior Building Waterproofing & Contaminant Protection.

I worked at IDOM in Bilbao, Spain as a Job Captain, on a R&D Building project in the SD and DD phases, managing coordination with consultants and developing the Revit model to ensure compliance with code and regulations. Additionally, my role as a job captain and BIM manager for the Science & Technology Campus in San Sebastián showcased my proficiency in overseeing the creation of architectural, structural, and site BIM models through REVIT 360, emphasizing my leadership in managing complex building projects and collaborative workflows. This experience allowed me to contribute to a sustainable building design that integrated renewable energy systems, reflecting my commitment to environmental impact reduction and sustainability in architectural projects.

Previously in LA, I worked with Totum Consulting as a Job Captain from May 2023 to November 2023, on the schematic design phase for a 75,000 SF Senior Care facility rehabilitation in Tustin, California, ensuring compliance with California Building Code and municipal codes. Additionally, leading other diverse projects such as a rehabilitation hospital improvement, motel rehabilitation, homeless shelter, and a child camp, highlighted my ability to meet regulatory requirements and provide tailored design solutions for clients.

From May 2022, I worked as a Job Captain at House & Robertson Architects (HRA) in Los Angeles, where I spearheaded a commercial project from entitlement to completion of 100% Construction Documents and Plan Check Resubmittal for building permits. My role involved building the BIM model on Revit 360, collaborating and coordinating with consultants, designers, and clients through regular meetings and Bluebeam sessions. I had extensive experience in building materials, systems, specifications, building codes, and producing detailed documents like shop drawings, wall sections, FF&E plans, and responding to plan check comments. Prior to this, I had worked in Spain as BIM Architect with Morph Studio in Madrid on hospitality projects using Revit and engaged in architectural competitions as a self-employed professional from 2020 to 2021.

From 2018 to 2020, I had the opportunity to work at various studios in Los Angeles. During my time at Abode Communities, I worked as an Architectural Designer on affordable multifamily housing. My responsibilities included working on Entitlement Set, Design Development, Construction Documents, Feasibility Studies of various projects. Prior to this, I was a Project Designer at M-RAD Architecture, where I worked on multifamily projects using Revit on the SD,  feasibility studies for a hospitality project  and an architectural competition that received recognition and publication.

I began my role as an Architectural Designer at MEIS Architects in Venice Beach working on the Cincinnati Football Club Stadium on REVIT 360 for the SD and DD phases over the course of a year. I was responsible for overseeing the design aspects of various amenities within the stadium, including restaurants, bars, medical facilities, parking areas, and restroom layouts. I created architectural visualizations (Rhino, Vray, Photoshop) as well as developing concept designs and context schemes for various entertainment venues such as music venues, amphitheaters, sport venues, and tennis courts.

A sustainable Pier in Huntington Beach, California. Master Project by Silvia Ruiz-Poveda, Scholarship

The idea of create a new prototype for a sustainable Pier in Huntington Beach was born from the analysis of this Surf City position that allows to re-use the natural re-sources the place has. The new design respects the traditional idea of the Piers as the place where everybody meets in the Californian Coast and the relationship with the city through the continuity of the Main Street, his position above the beach and along the Ocean, preserving the permeability in the accesses and the aquatic activities around the Pier.
