Silvia Ruiz-Poveda is a Master Architect who graduated from Polytechnic University of Madrid / ETSAM, a NAAB accredited 5-year architecture school, in 2016. In addition to her architectural studies, Silvia pursued her interest in arts and cinema by studying Art Direction at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London (summer of 2012) and Film Production at UCLA (summer of 2014). She also spent a year abroad studying Architecture at Seoul National University (SNU).

Currently working as an Architect at IDOM Bilbao on a Science & Technology Campus of 65000 SF Project on the Schematic Design and DD in REVIT, located in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain.

She is an experienced BIM Architect with a demonstrated history of working in the architecture & planning industry in Spain and the United States. She has worked as a Job Captain in Los Angeles with House & Robertson Architects on comercial Projects, with TOTUM on rehabilitation and change of use hospitality projects, with MEIS Architects as an Architectural Designer on the Cincinnatti Football Club Stadium and Abode Communities on affordable residencial projects. Overall she has gained experience on different project typologies such as sports, entertainment, commercial, hospitality, and residential from the Entitlement, Schematic Design up to Plan Check in the Los Angeles area, mostly on REVIT 360, applying the California Building Code and respective municipal codes in California.

Her strong Arts and Design skills make her a professional architect focused on a sustainable architecture approach on large and small scale buildings. She approaches projects with an awareness of the context, scale, natural light and materials. She has collaborated with different Architecture studios, accomplishing competitions, such as M-RAD in Los Angeles, for LAGI 2019 Competition in Masdar City which won a nomination and various publications. The project proposed an alternative solution for sustainable architecture in Masdar City.

Silvia's Master's thesis focused on creating a new Pier typology in Huntington Beach, California, with a focus on sustainability concepts and natural energy sources. Her project became a new structure that allows the program to grow, compacted to the site over the ocean to receive the minimum impact to re-use the sources which are exposed for multiple uses, such as Surf Museum, Aquarium, surf and skate schools, restaurants, and a greenhouse. While maintaining the permeability the old Pier has, the new structure generates a green architecture for the city of Huntington Beach.

Silvia has lived in various cities such as Madrid, Paris, Seoul, London, Los Angeles and Basque Country, giving her an adaptable and flexible attitude that her Architecture approach shows. Silvia is also interested in working with arts, music, and scenography, and occasionally collaborates with artists to design their music album and film directors in set design, sound, photography direction, and editing, due to her studies in Film Production and Art in Film in UCLA and Central Saint Martin in London, respectively.

A sustainable Pier in Huntington Beach, California. Master Project by Silvia Ruiz-Poveda, Scholarship

The idea of create a new prototype for a sustainable Pier in Huntington Beach was born from the analysis of this Surf City position that allows to re-use the natural re-sources the place has. The new design respects the traditional idea of the Piers as the place where everybody meets in the Californian Coast and the relationship with the city through the continuity of the Main Street, his position above the beach and along the Ocean, preserving the permeability in the accesses and the aquatic activities around the Pier.
