Located adjacent to the iconic Torrey Pines Natural Reserve and serving the UC San Diego campus and surrounding community, the Torrey Pines Fire Station is anchored into the landscape on the east while opening up the building to the community at the public facing west side and expanding views from the living areas towards the Pacific Ocean. This compact building on a challenging site is organized around three major design goals: simple massing, focus on firefighter health + response times and celebrate the surrounding landscape and site context through site response and materiality.
