This project involves a public school in Manhattan that is historically preserved. Our goal is to make minimal changes while modernizing the building to create a comfortable environment for students. To achieve this, we demolish the middle section of the "I"-shaped building and use a mass timber structure to support this transparent central area. To reinforce the building, concrete is used to cast two cores, with steel beams extending out to connect to the mass timber system.
Additionally, we utilized BIM to manage both the design and construction phases. We collaborated in Revit to build the complete architectural and structural system and organized the MEP systems.
