Irvine Unified School District

Stonegate Elementary School is the first Irvine Unified School District project to be designed to CHPS design criteria. The project was certified as CHPS Designed, and was the first project in the district to qualify for additional OPSC funding through the High Performance Incentive State program. Among the highlights of the sustainable design strategies are the energy efficiency and water efficiency aspects of the project. Through the use of efficient lighting fixtures and controls, efficient mechanical systems, and high insulation values in the building envelope, the project is calculated to be 23.57% more energy efficient than Title 24 requirements. Low water consumption plumbing fixtures, including waterless urinals, resulted in a 48.8% savings in the use of potable water. The water savings also extends to the site design, where reclaimed water will supply 100% of the landscape irrigation water needs.
