Nicole Little is a Designer at Architects FORA. Realizing the magnitude of the housing crisis in the United States, and standing firm in the belief that everyone deserves a secure, healthy space to call home, the firm's mission is to create more beautiful, sustainable, and restorative living environments for our communities through affordable and accessible housing+.
Nicole received a dual Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning at the University at Buffalo in 2020 where she specialized in Ecological Practices and Healthy Communities for Architecture and Urban Planning, respectively. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with a minor in Environmental Design, also at the University at Buffalo, in 2017.
Nicole is an intersectional thinker, passionate about creating inclusive, design-oriented housing projects which imagine new alternatives for sustainable, equitable, and healthy communities - encouraging a transformation towards a joyful and just future of the built environment. Her research interests focus on housing innovations that use sustainability as a lever for social justice, health, and wellbeing. Her methodological interests include community-engaged research and design.
She is equally as passionate about communicating these ideas in creative, unconventional ways within the fields of architecture and urban planning; for example, after a robust community engagement process, she created a graphic novel to represent her thesis findings - which were more easily shared with resident stakeholders and neighborhood advocates who participated in the process.
While attending University, Nicole worked at the Community of Excellence in Global Health Equity at UB - a research group whose mission is to tackle the complex global health challenges of today’s world using an innovative interdisciplinary, impact-oriented, equity-focused approach. Her graphics have been featured in a wide array of the groups' publications and other materials for research, education, and outreach, including a report with the UN and a book published by Springer. She previously worked as an intern with the UB Center for Urban Studies, where she taught middle schoolers from Buffalo and coached the students to second place at the regional Future Cities Competition. During her school breaks, she also served as an architectural intern for NYS OGS Design and Construction.
