Los Angeles, CA
JKA was asked by the City to develop illustrative concepts for the surrounding industrial sites of the Santa Ana Train Station depot area, in anticipation of the conversion of these sites to a transit-oriented district.
A variety of mixed-use programs were developed for the site at a range of intensities. The objective was to demonstrate that human-scale building massing and architecture fitting into the surrounds could be realized with moderate to high density increase. Based upon the initial studies and City staff input, JKA provided concepts showing high-rise and mid-rise buildings, a mix of uses including residential, office, hotel and street-level retail components, open space, the connection enhancement of the train station depot and the residential districts across the site, and a sense of architectural and urban character more fully developed in colored renderings.
